Re:10 inch ape hanger question 11 Months, 1 Week ago
I changed them out almost 2 years ago shortly after buying the bike.

I have ridden with 18's on my old shovelhead.....and to be honest with you I find the 10's may not have the cool factor the 18's did. But I sure enjoy riding with them a whole lot more.

I found the cables and hoses on ebay....

Bottom line is it looks good, they are great to ride with,it was a cheap swap and I like em!

Since others are saying I will need to be creative in routing those cables, I was wondering if when you origionally changed from standard to 10" apes, if you routed the cables on tank side of triple tree to save space and if so did you turn the bracket so that it facing the tank side. that is the bracket under the triple tree that the cables are routed through. If you can, give me a call James, at 417-438-7064, thanks so much, Rob

What do you think about running the cables on the tank side of the triple tree if that is what it takes to make the stock cables work with 10 inch apes?

I went to 10's after I saw Geno's bike (dkstr22) and used all stock except for a stainless brake line for the front. The only reason that I did it is because I ran a stainless one to the rear with my extended floorboards. I went 2" over on the front for a little slack.

I am also running the barrons pullback risers

I installed 10" Z bars, ran the wires thru the bars and I have 4" risers with 2" pull-back. They are DT risers from JP Cycles. My stock cables worked, but they were at there limits so I went with 4" longer stainless cables. It was easy to install, gives the bike a real nice look with the stainless and wasn't too bad in price. If you go to ebay, the dealer I used was GT motorsports. They custom make your cables to your specs. Hope this helps and good luck!

I have changed the headlight and added a stainless plate behind the headlight since these photos were taken.

I am sorry but I do not know how to post a picture. I have my 4" pullback risers installed and the new 10" apes. I routed the clutch and throttle cables on the tank side of the triple tree, they will work out fine. The stock wiring is plenty long enough to reach. Only thing I need to change is the brake cable. I have ordered a longer one from motorcycle superstore, should have it by 7/5. If someone will post instructions for posting a picture, I will get a pic on here one I am all done.\

I just ordered 8 3/4 rise bars from J&P Cycles and have 4 inch risers already. I believe I will put the stock risers back on and go with the new bars.
