Is this shock only on the GL1800? What years will work?

Yes, only the GL1800 Goldwing. It is a mono shock with an electric motor to hydraulic pump. Can't miss the looks of it when searching. Any GL1800 but the newer the better right?

I am going to assume that you guys are out enjoying the new ride and are unable to respond to the questions posed here! haha
Like I said though, I have this shock on two of my bikes now and love the functionality AND the ride! VT1100 Shadow and XV1700 Roadstar

Hey Gonz. So, can the shock be controlled like an air ride shock...up and down to set height and comfort?

Yes and no..... on my 1100 it is straight mounted to the swingarm and cross tube on the upper frame. The Roadstar it is mounted to the pivot arm. Result is on the 1100 a lighter bike and straight mount I can visually see the bike risding and lowering at the touch of a button.
on teh Roadstar however, I haven't noticed as much movement but sitting and lightly slapping the seat with my arse while pressing teh button I can feel the preload changing. I guess I need to try it again and watch the bike and run the shock from bottom to top and see if there is a change in ride height. minimal I would expect if there is.
I still need to cut a hole in my fairing to mount teh switch. if I get to it this week I will double check..
I am riding the 1100 today.

How did it go, and how is it?
The install was interesting but well worth it for the ride. My Uncle and I have a list of the top five things that should be installed on a R* from the factory in this order (IMO).
1-Goldwing shock
2-10w fork oil
3-Handlebar risers
4-Driver backrest
5-Heated grip inserts (we ride over the mountain passes almost every weekend)
I will elaborate more on the install with a few pictures I took this evening
