Ahh! yes I bet there are a lot in the bone yard...Those bikes are deceptively agile right out of the box..being a minimalist, I have always thought that I would like a Rune, but the price tag has prevented that...

Your welcome Tug. When are you going to install yours?
Soon as the switches get here from china, then the wiring harnesses can be finished. That's right plural there's two roadies in the family. After that I will do mine, I don't know when my brother will do his

I'd like to hear some feedback from someone who has done this with the flip and grind. If I do it, it would be nice to do it at the same time.
I don't think it is possible to do with the flip and grind as it will hit the linkage severely causing major binding/damage. When the Goldwing shock is installed in our R* linkage it is backwards of the original shock configuration.
This is what the two shocks looks like next to each other. Notice how the spring base plate on the Goldwing shock is very close to the aluminum open end for the linkage (left side of the shocks in the picture).

I was wondering if the shock could be put on, and just run the air hose to a schrader valve, and not use the pump and motor. Just using a hand pump like on a Harley? Just sound like a cheaper and less involved install. That's how I would like to have mine.

It's not an air pump it's hydraulic. I thought it was air too until my brother told me otherwise

Is the pump pumping air or hydraulic fluid?

It is displacing hydraulic fluid with a positive displacement pump.

It is an electric pump that drives a worm gear, pushing a piston to drive fluid into the shock collar. Haha. Shock collar. Thats funny.

Yes, what he said. I was reading up over at the GL188 site and see they have issues with the hose getting spongy. I can't imagine that it is much of a noticeable effect on the conversion. Would that be correct? Also noted most chimed in and said they get changed basically because of uninformed owners not getting them bled and changing the hose to SS. Interesting. I'm not gonna run around educating them, since I'm planning to buy one of thier cast-offs!

Same theory as to changing brake lines to stainless braided teflon. I would wxpect to feel the difference in spongey to firm inthe brakes over the shock lines. I use braided lines on all my bikes but havent converted the R yet. Now would be the time to change the line before you install it. There is a guy that adds a bleeder screw to the housing to get air out of the lines but i think you would loose some fluid doing that and thus some pressure. I used a syringe to top mine off before connecting back to the pump filling both the line and pump with the piston fully retracted.
Usually the GW folks upgrade the spring for a stiffer one if you can imagine that!
