That being said, base / clear is A LOT easier to paint and is very forgiving if you make a mistake. Check around, prep work is everything. I have been painting my own cars and bikes for 20 years. He charged $500 for prep, prime, paint and clearcoat plus materials... since the cost of the paint you choose could vary widely. My paint wound up being around $280 for the special grey metallic pearl flake I choose.. This guy did a bunch of mods and paint work for folks and had a good reputation among the VTX riders. Last one he did was my chop in solid black and had a lot of prep. Charged me $850.00 for a tank, two fenders, side covers and handlebars.
