Well on bare metal the paint can grab, even with sanding. The etching primer has a mild acid that bonds on a molecular level with the metal. If you sand it dull then seal and prime or lay down two coats of good primer you should be good to go, The first chrome job I did was a couple of HD air cleaners, they were un-cleared after completion, but 5 years later they are still daily riders with only minimal paint chiping from road debris etc. The secret to all good pain is the prep work.   Logged     Custom paint anyone.... ?
