Air Ride woes 7 Months ago
I just installed a Barons Air Ride kit, and I do love it! Just one thing bothers the crap out me with it. When I ride with the system low, the belt squeels like crazy. Has anyone here ever dealt with the belt squeel with an air ride, and how can I get rid of the squeel?? I know if I adjust the belt with the bike at a lower stance it will stretch the belt as it goes up, which aint good! Can you take those rollers out safely? Or without causing anothere issue?
Thanks for your help!
Tony

You have pretty much figured it out if you adjust the belt when lowered it's too tight when raised. If you adjusted when raised then it's too loose when lowered.

You'll have to pick a spot in-between but remember .... running too tight is not good for the bearing.

Yes, you can take the rollers out.

Thanks for the reply. This is where I have the delima, I bought the air ride for pulling a trailer while two up. I am not little by no means, 6'2" @ 230lbs. With the bike loaded to go on a trip, then you put the trailer behind it, lets just say it is a lot of weight. So, I can now jack the air ride way up and still be able to ride correctly and comfortably. When I ride by myself, which I ride to work year round, I like a more lowered custom stance. Sounds like I need another bike, huh?
Would removing the rollers have any detrimental effects as far as belt jumping teeth and breaking? I have seen on some custom bike with air ride, something that looks similar to an idler puller from a serpentine belt setup. Has anyone tried to adapt one of these to take up that slack?

In your case it would be best to find the optimum belt setting for each setup and then adjsut the axle adjuster accordingly. Certainly a pain.

The belt won't jump teeth ... until you start doing burnouts.

The idler pulley is custom and you would need to adapt one for you bike.
