Straights versus the powerport exhaust 3 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Been doing quite a bit of reading and lots of googling for a few days trying to find the exhaust I want to go with. I was dead set on the V&H Longshots HS when I saw them, then I really thought it was the Jug Huggers (because it is fun to say). Then I read of the powerport exhaust, beinga better 2-2 pipe, which replicates the 2-1 exhaust, which is a better performing setup.

So I love the look of the straights, I want lots of big long pipe, lots of chrome, deep loud idles, turn your head when I get on it sound....but I want the best performance too. UGH!!!!

So, I think now maybe the Cobra Speedster Longs. (pics and sound clips)
http://www.cobrausa.com/content/index.cfm?siteaction=Exhaust&bikeid=63

And I know there are a bunch of ya that are HK guys too...That just throws another in the mix. So, if someone could just tell me what the best sounding and performing is, with my hyper, then I can go ride with Curt and he will curtify my carb...and all will be happy

Thoughts? Comments? Discuss

Oh, and I will be using a Hypercharger Pro-R most likely. IS it my "best" performance, no, but I like the look of it

great. I just got a call from a good friend of mine that says "heard ya got a bike"...he has V-star...anyway, goes on and on about the Hard Kromes...ugh, I am never gonnafind the pipes I want! hahaha

I think I have eliminated Cobra, I like the VH and HKs better.

That is one decision down

LionRstar06,

I have going through the same thing that Jason19 has been going through but I have been looking at pipes for 6 months. I had settled on the Cobra Speedster Longs like you have but today when I picked my bike up from the dealer after an oil change, I started talking about pipes and a sales guy said he heard one of their techs say not to get Cobras. He wasn't sure why, he thought it might be something about the pipes blueing. Have you had any problems with the Cobras? I really like the sound. The dealer wants me to buy the Yamaha Speedstar exhaust. Any information you can provide will be great!!

Thanks, FL_rider

I have the V&H Powershots and have the best of both worlds nice looking two pipes with a crossover to give the power of a 2 n 1
I have not used cobra pipes but, I know 2 guys who bought them and the power and sound was nice but, the quality was not good both ended up changing.

got the v&h longshots, no baffles, it is louuud i mean, you will be heard when you get on it for a long ways, people in cars will hear you coming and other bike riders whose bikes aren't as loud will want you to ride in the back

I had my HK 3" big straights for about 4 years on my R*. Got them in 2004. A few months ago I got a crack in the bottom pipe. Over time, this crack has gotten longer. Its still rideable, I've had no problem with them up to that time. See this discussion about em: http://roadstarclinic.com/component/option,com_fireboard/Itemid,187/func,view/catid,13/id,78542/

Well Jason guess I will muddy the water a little for ya. I had the HC and the HK K2 pipes. At 3000 miles with the HK pipes I had problem (Dealer Jetted). I never really got the sound I wanted with the HK's. I made three sets of baffles with no luck and the straight thru HK baffles were to loud and had a crack to them. The new spiral cut didn't sound much better sold them). The HK 2 3/4 pipes are actually 1 3/4 all the way back with a step down to 1 5/8 in the baffle 12 " long. I am not sure about the 3 inch but I am sure the don't increase that much in size. The HK chrome is awesome better than any other but they are a heavy pipe and will add about 40-50 lbs with the long pipes. The best I ever got out of my HK's were 68 hp 95.5 torque. I got the Bubs and the chrome isn't as good and the metal is thinner but with the torque cones the sound is RIGHT and 75 hp 95.5 torque so I am really happy. Just ask Bill Jr how she runs. As for the HC I got rid of mine because I never really could get her dialed in. I got the BAK and it was MUCH easier. I have it where I want it now and have no problems except keeping gas in it. Bill also razzes me about that too. SO for what it is worth!
