Yes, you have to have the guards for the trim rails to fit. The yamaha parts and accessories catalog they sent me on CD shows the brackets and you can see how it would mount. trouble is I loaned my CD to my dealer who hadnt seen it yet, and I havent gotten it back or I would post a pic for you to see.

Okay, that's what I thought. But are the guards made specifically for the Roadstar or are they using the tour classic saddlebag guards? Thanks!

Its a different guard than the standard saddle bag guard you have always been able to buy. When i ordered mine the rails have come in but the new saddle bag guard is what has been back ordered until Sept. Its a completely different part number.

Sorry to hear that. I can give you my dealers Ph.# if you like
These rails look so sweet! It just completes the saddlebag area and matches the front end nicely. I will post a new profile pic that shows my bike with them on.
Yamaha hit a homerun with these items!

Mine came in today. I got them on the bike and they look very good. If you order them, go ahead and get yourself a 5mm tap. They chrome the rails that the bolts go in after they weld the tabs in. 3 of the four would accept the 5mm bolts they supply without tapping them. beyond that. Its a piece of cake.

Yes, they look cool. It brings the chrome to the back, the way tassles bring leather to the front.

I get a lot of complements at gas stations etc.
