I did it just like stock except just for the heck of it I wrapped a strip of metal window screen around the outside of the packing.

I'm real happy with it. If I can get rid of the hollow sound at idle I'll be 100% pleased. When it comes right down to it the sound isn't a big deal anyway but it's an easy fix so what the heck.

Your bike looked cooler - to me - with the shotguns on it.... that said, it's still a great looking bike!

Did you put mesh between the packing and baffle? I ask because there is already a fine screen wrapped around the baffle. Looks like it came that way. At the 3rd hardware store I went to they had an old steel window screen they gave me just to get rid of it. I figure that will hold up better than Alumminum or Fiberglass which is the only screen you can find now it seems.

Think I just got it. Were you talking about putting packing down on the perforated cylinder with the double mesh?

Saw this a bit late but I think you got the idea ..... a layer of mesh on the baffle, then the packing, then another layer of mesh .... all tied together with wire.

Fibrerglass no good ... I used the aluminum.

This is what I did so far. I'll try it and see how it goes. It's nice that it only takes a minute to pull out if I want to add more.

That's how I used the screening. I found I also need to have screening next to the pipe or it blew out quite fast.

I left the stock wrapping in and added enough to cover the back two holes.

At least that's what I think I did.

I also tried steel wool ... forget that ... it burns up too fast .... and stainless steel wool ... worked fairly well but did not get the sound I was looking for.
