UN-chromed headlight 1 Month, 2 Weeks ago
Looking for an unchromed 7" headlight for my Roadie. Old school bikes (I'm talking way back) didn't have the headlight chromed, it was painted to match the bike and thats what I'd like. Any suggestions? I can't find anything that isn't chrome. Even painted would be fine so I could repaint. Love that REAL old school look....at the rate I'm going I'll probably have wood wheels on it!

Bikes without chrome. There's just something wrong about that...

AS Musky beat me to it! Yes either strip or have yours sandblasted, or find a cheap all scratched up one and do the same. I have a friend who did that and had it powder coated black on his Roadie and it looks real good!!!

Re:UN-chromed headlight 1 Month, 2 Weeks ago
since my dad always taught me that great ideas came from lazy guys I figured someone here would have an idea of how to find one that was already painted! I know about oging the stripping route or sanding but would prefer perhaps a different looking headlight. Bates makes some that aren't painted but can't find one 7". Ness makes one that has holes in the chrome allowing an interior bucket to shine through that I could paint.

Yeah, less chrome is better I swear! No polishing, no shine except paint. that reminds me, anyone paint their cast wheels to match their bike (just the parts that are currently black).

Sometimes you can find headlight buckets on ebay fairly cheap. I'd check there if you want to keep your headlight as is. Otherwise I'd be painting my headlight bucket and smiling.

I was kicking that idea around about a month ago, Gram did that to his and I thought it looked great, but I wanted a roll bag for the handle bars and figured it would wear the paint off. Well I got a roll bag and found that it didn't need to hit the light, so the project is back on the table...

Check out www.GROTE.COM

I'm betting there is somthing in the Fleet products.

BTW, I like the idea of painting the bucket.

Very "Retro Cool".
