Vance & Hines ? 1 Month, 1 Week ago
Hello! I'm wondering if anyone here is running the old style V&H Longshots that are 99-03 on an 04' or newer. It supposedly will fit the 1700 with no problem, would just like to see if anyone here has done it as I may get a good deal on some! Thanks! OH, and mine is an 04' if that matters.

I emailed V&H directly and they replied with "the old style will NOT fit the '07". They said only the HS style will fit. If I had to guess, Yamaha probably didn't change the dimensions of the bikes from 06 to 07 as far as where the pipes run.

and if they DON'T fit your 1700, then please pass the deal along to me via email. (houstonch73@yahoo.com). I have an '02 1600 and that's the look I'm looking for. (I actually just missed a set for sale on another board for $100 plus shipping.) dang.....

That's what I have/had on my 07. Picked them up used for a hundred bucks. However, you may have to retune the carb. I started to experience SVS after 6000 miles. Seems that lack of back pressure causes it to run too rich. Not sure yet. I did put the stock pipes back on and now have no problems.

Eventually they will go back on and either re-tune the carb or install V&H tuning kit.

Out of curiosity, were you running them with or without baffles? Also, from what I've read on here, just changing the exhaust out you shouldn't have to re-tune the carb. Just what I've read though.

V & H told me the Propipe wouldnt fit my 1700 either. They said it was for the 1600. They ofcourse were wrong. There is no difference. now if you have a EFI bike with the sensor, that may be a different deal.

I ran the pipes with the original baffles. I have another set that I might try but most likely I'm going make some reducers similar to Curt's.

It would be wonderful if all these bikes were the same. I thought mine ran just fine without doing anything but that doesn't seem to be the case. AFAIC, there are no absolutes when it comes to making modifications or there wouldn't be nearly the amount of questions we see on these forums.

I have never heard of anyone that has said they couldn't use a set of pipes, designed for a R*, on any year up to 07.

The only thing I don't like about my V&H Longshots is the shield clamp that is near the altenator cover. It has little or nearly no clearance and will scratch the case cover. Mine isn't chrome and I'm not particularly anal about such things but it is definately worth looking into before buying.
