21 inch front wheel 5 Years, 2 Months ago
Thinking ahead for the next project, how does the r* handle with a 21 inch front wheel? I've been thinking the next one will get a 21 front but wanted some input before I start thinking I want to go that route. I don't want to loose handling in the sake of the look.

I've only seen thinner 21 inch wheels. The wide stocker makes it track well but is a little sluggish. Buddies are always saying that their HDs don't track on such and such a road where I don't have any problem. And this is with the stock Bridgestones.

Never done it on the R* but have seen pics of a lot of them with 21 inch front wheels. For what it is worth, I made a bar hopper out of an Electra Glide (Shovel) Classic one time and put a 21 inch on the front. Had no issues at all, and boy did that thing haul ass. Kinda the same size bike as the R*. I bet it would handle better, the narrower wheel seems to be like a sharp knife compared to a dull knife of the wider wheel.

I have a 21x3.5 inch wheel on my Warrior and it is great. Granted I am raked out a little. I think if you like the look you will be happy with it.

The skinny (2.15" wide) 21's will generally offer a little more twitchy feeling on the road, especially if the road has grooves. Those skinny tires really love to follow them.

If you want to keep the handling/steering feel you have now yet get the look of a 21 out front, look for a 21x3.25" wheel. Most every aftermarket wheel maker offers them, and they're just a hair more than the skinnier one. This mated with a 120-series tire IMO is the "best of both worlds" solution.

BTW, I happen to have NIB 60-spoke 21x3.25 3/4" axle single flange wheel sitting here if you'd be interested. Paid $150+shipping, but I'll let it go for $100 + actual shipping.

Have a matching 18x8.5" rear wheel and brand new Dunlop Elite 3's for both as well if you're interested (tires are 120/70-21 and 250/40VR18). Will make a good deal if someone want's the whole kit & kaboodle.

Sure wish I was in the market for that setup right now.
Unfortunately, I have a honeymoon to pay for next week..
