If you're using risers for 1" bars and your bars are 1" OR if you have the fatty apes and the area for the risers is stepped down to 1", you're OK. The only problem you'll have is if you buy HD fatty apes...their rises are 3.5" on center, whereas the R* risers are almost an inch further apart. That means the stepped-down area on the HD fatty bars is too narrow and won't fit into our risers. If you buy the fatter apes, buy for the Road Star specifically or at least a metric so the 1" area fits in the risers. The 12" HD apes I have on mine now fit in the risers, but I had got fatty apes for a VTX, so the area that's stepped down from 1.25" to 1" is plenty wide. Do that, and no grinding required.
