Re:Help installing apes 2 Years, 6 Months ago
As for cable suppliers I used CycleBrakes.com. Excellent turnaround and even when they messed up the length on my primary brake cable they got a replacement to me within 2 days. Really treated me right. As for pricing they seemed to be representative, I got 6+ inches on the primary brake line, standard rear Brake cable, New +4" throttles and clutch (Galfer Brake Lines( http://cyclebrakes.com/html/galfer_brake_lines.html )and Barnett Throttles and Clutch, in the platinum finish, total cost for everything including shipping was around $400.

Most people who use the stock risers and put 16" apes on them, use +10 cables. If you are going to put 12"bars on 4" risers that makes about 15" up and if the risers are 1.5" pullback; I would say that +10" should do the job. The cables come in black vinyl like the OEM cables you have now, or stainless steel braid with a clear plastic coating. The SS braid kind of spruces things up like adding chrome. If you are going to repaint your bike black maybe you want to keep the cables black. If you are on a tight budget the SS braid is almost twice the cost of the black.
Most people just replace the upper brake hose and leave the lower ones as is. You need to decide what you want; let me know whether you want black or SS braid, do you want just the upper brake hose or the whole thing? For shipping I charge you exactly what I get charged and I don't know what that is untill it has been shipped. What I have been doing is when you figure out just what it is that you want and I give you a price; then you call me with credit card numbers and pey for the parts and I order them. When I know what the shipping charges are then I tell you and you give me card numbers again to pay for the shipping.

Outstanding, that's great info. Let's go with the +10 over, black vinyl and upper hose only.

'nuther rookie question, what else do I need? cable care kit? bolts, connectors, anything else a novice needs to think about?

Get yourself a vacuum pump for bleeding your front brakes... it will make things go a lot faster! Other than that, you have received some really great advice... post pix when you are done
