Memphis Shades Joke Bat-wing Fairing 2 Years, 6 Months ago
UPDATE RSC Solved this problem, An old HD part no. / Faring was sent with new RS mounts. If you see pics and read on you will see it makes for a high capacity faring. Geeky at best.

So I saw Fireman's Bat wing at the Lake of the Ozarks, Very cool! So I wait to order the kit specifically for my RS. The day has come.
I got a deal on it, Yes I checked the part numbers and instructions and I got the exact application for out RS's.
1st let me tell you if you buy from them, the 1st step should be to shred the instructions as they are worthless.
I didn't even have "Plugs covering headlamp Bolts" I didn't have "Remove 4 Bolts on headlamp" They didn't mention I had to take the headlamp out to get to one bolt, They didn't mention I had to loose my Windshield Mounts (Both sides)Nor that I had to remove the Riser to remove the cable retainers, (All three of them.) And remove the headlamp PLUS they forgot to mention I needed spacers to re- mount the headlamp or low beam coon hunts...... AND you have to put the brackets on Reversed and up side down to get the faring even close to the advertised picture on their web site. (The bottom of fering about even with bottom 1/4 of headlamp housing. IF you install it according to the instructions Correctly THIS is what you get.

What the hell are they thinking? And yes Joke is on my I paid over 100 bucks for that mount kit especially designed for my RS Midnight Silver ado as listed in the MS catalog. The latest part number.

Riders you can use our mounting kit and enjoy three times the buffeting and wind you now get and a special high flow tunneling effect sure to blow your helmet off! As an added advantage you can STILL see the road right over your headlamp, a handy feature for when you are just not sure WHERE that pothole went!

View from riders seat. Is this Gay or what? What were they thinking?
Even the kids were laughing at it and saying put the old stuff back on, I did enjoy the laughs people got as I rode on by.

Enough was enough about 10 miles was all I could stand when I had to go home and re fab MS's CRAP I Had some aluminum flat stock around and I lowered the mounts inside the faring as seen here. 2.5 inches seemed to be about right for my risers. Others may have to adjust but this is how you can correct MS's poor set up/

This pic shows the right one done and the left as MS sends it to you.

This is what it looks like after I corrected the $100 + MS's screw up.

I'm not even sure that the $100 mounting kit was even worth the money as a ball park starting point. I'd of been better off just to but the faring and go from there as the pioneers did.
The plus is, It's quick Release, (Quick Steal) I do get about 3 times as much wind as opposed to my prior set up, have to work on that. Another plus is I can fit a sleeping bag between the risers and the Faring, easily!
Memphis Shades REALLY dropped the ball on this one! Very poor fit IMHO.

The Faring is cool, the point is, the mount they sell for our bikes, has absolutely terrible directions and the way they picture it fits keeps you trying for hours to actually put it on wrong. I almost elongated some holes and cut some parts off. I do have to write them as a handy dandy e mail address is on the directions. I just don't see any way possible anyone would ride around with their bike looking as dorky as that. I've installed a heck of a lot of parts in 48 years, this was the largest puzzle i ever solved!

The point of my post, If you order this, have some flat stock, drill, bits and nuts and bolts handy because your going to need em!

Wow, what a PITA. The fit around the headlight doesn't look at all like mine, even after you modded the mounts. I wonder if they sent you the right fairing and mounts, or put your label on someone else's box?

Paul

If I rake the neck this winter and have to make a new mount to get the angel right, I'll give you the one I made and took to the M&G. After looking at the pics again, you need to get it even lower. Mine sits about 1/4 inch off of the light housing. That will get rid of most of your wind.

It is halarious that Memphis Shades is selling this mount kit huh? Schatzie saw it and had that "I ain't going to be seen on that." Look and she took the car to the game.

Hey Paul, I'm satisfied with the position I have it in now, I actually tipped it Fwd a bit since this pic. It rides where it needs to with the Pro One risers. It's about 1.5 above the light now it was like 6" with MS joke mount. Your mount is great, One of a kind perfect i wouldn't touch it! But mine is a different style and i have to go with it the way it is. I also like the storage room i got up there. I put my Tool bag in that hole and my Frogg Toggs. Thanks for the offer though.

It IS funny what MS thinks we want, A high Riser Faring?

This is it now, minor adjustments to be made, headlight aim dialed in.

And Paul, thanks also for the Air cleaner fix,

Sweet! And fits with no Modification! Ha ha!

Holy crap...they had to have sent you the wrong fairing or mounting kit or both. If you check out SS Custom Cycle's website, Shane has a pic of the wing mounted on a Roadie, 1100, Liner etc. You can see that they all fit tight to headlamp. Ive seen a couple of these mounted also and never one that far out of wack. Looks better after your mods though.
