I have the Tall/ Wide but see over it ONLY when I sit up very staight- Prefer seeing over it which gives a better view of what's in front of me. Saw an article to trim some off the top- sounds like a big project! On my last bike, I lowered my windshield some. Had to notch it @ the bottom slightly (w/ a Dremel)where the light bar is. Anyone done that?

If you go with an aftermarket screen, make SURE you're getting polycarbonate and NOT plex or plastic...kicked up from under a cager's tire, a rock will punch through those like tissue paper.
My 2 cents...

So, I looked at a couple of sites. Are "aircraft grade acrylic" and/or Lucite polycarbonates?
Oh, do any of you know whether or not the windscreen from a Tour Deluxe would fit a RS?

I have trimmed mine with a dremel near where I have some bullet blinkers mounted to my headlamp. It was some slow going because one slip can do some nasty looking damage, but since I took my time I was pretty pleased with the results.
The probelm I had with cutting the shield was that I couldn't hold it properly to keep it steady while the blade was doing it's work. It wanted to move with the blade. The Dremel did what I needed it to do, it just took a little longer. I bet you could also trim one down a bit with a mouse type sander and then several different grains of paper to first get it where you want it and then to finish the edge properly.

I made some lowers for my bike using plexiglax. I used a sabre saw to cut the outline and recess for the crash bar. After sanding the edges smooth I used M.E.K. (methyl ethyl keytone)on a rag to smooth the edge to a factory finish. If you google the question there are many sites to explain the process. That is how I learned about the MEK trick on the edge.

They aren't the same. Polycarbonate is Lexan. It's harder, non-yellowing, with excellent clarity. This is the stuff aircraft fusilages and bulletproof windows are made of. Lucite is an acrylic polymer, has been around since the 60s, and initially was a lot weaker, less clear and prone to yellowing. Now, acrylic technology has advanced to the point where clarity and yellowing is about on par with Lexan. Still not as strong, lucite/acrylic shields need to be much thicker to compare with polycarbonate/lexan. The only advantage to lucite is the lower cost.

OK, I've now put lots of miles on the Cee Baileys tall windshield. Very good quality, nice windshield, bolted right on, definitely better and quieter riding than the original size. I have the H-D lowers on my R*, so wind is cut down a ton using those as well. As to width, I'm a fairly big guy, and wind wise, the stock width is fine. I would be concerned about the extra wide windshield acting as a sail in very high cross wind situations though, as I've ridden through a lot of those lately. Even the taller windshield picked up the crosswinds pretty good, and I'd suspect that the Tall/Wide would be even worse. My gut reaction is that the stock width would be just fine 99% of the time. If you ride in real cold/wet weather, consider a full HD ElectraGlide type fairing and/or heated grips. My 2 cents and, no, there is no refund!

I had a Stock Silverado WS with HD lowers and went to a wider Batwing Fairing, The Fairing allows about ten times as much air onto me. So much for wider. The blast of air is from under the fairing around the tank and into my face and onto my chest. Very Cold riding as compared to the Stock WS and HD Lowers I had. I need a cure or it's going to get into my winter riding.

Did you try and fab your lowers to fit back on? I think that may take care of some of your problem. I also have chaps for my big bars and they block alot of air from that area. I know you ride all year so ya need to find a solution soon
