Header Nut Torque 1 Year, 8 Months ago
Do you guys torque your header nuts to spec? Manual calls for 11ft lbs and I was trying to hit that today but it felt so tight I was afraid of breakage. Should I press on?

First time I changed pipes, I torqued to spec and bent the studs. I had to change the studs. Next time, I tightened till they felt snug.

I would not tighten them that much as bent or broken studs are a pain to deal with.

Eleven foot pounds is not much torque, spark plugs are recommended at 12 ft lbs!! Sure your torque wrench is set properly? I know my exhaust studs are way past 11 pounds cause I had a leak and got to tightenting them pretty hard.

If I was gonna tighten them to spec @ 11 ft lbs. I think I would do it with an inch LB torque wrench and go to 132 inch lbs. It would be more accurate. Personally I cranked mine down and got the bike hot and tightened them again.

I cranked mine with a short ratchet and then retorqued after heating and cooling once. No leaks in over 3 years!! Way over 11 pounds torque though.
