Worth it? Do they introduce new issues (reliability)?

I'm reading that they yeild a 6-9% hp increase. Given this data which would be a better way to go. Hc pistons, 42mili mikuni, both?

Carb would be the easier of the two to do. But I don't have either so I can't give a good comparison.

I asked Curt about the increase of HP/TQ on his after he installed the HSR. His Dyno results didn't improve from the stock carb. Look in the thread "HSR rich idle" on pg 9. I would be curious to hear from someone with dyno results before and after HC pistons. HC's could go on my winter "to do" list.

i did my top end finished yestuday first promblem right off the bat is hard starting. i have a 310cca battery and it has a hard time turning it over, but keep in mind not only went to 10.5:1 wiseco pistons but i also decked the heads, had them ported and polished and triple cut the vavles. as for the carb i have the 40mm carb but it is jetted and i have a hand ported intake with a bak.also have dynatek3000 cdi set at 4750 and pipes.

do you have the thicker battery cables and starter cables? you'll probably need them now if you don't. also you might want to consider upgrading your starter

That's what I'm trying to figure out. So far nobody's weighed in with any data on the hc's. I read that post about the 45 a.d noticed that curt also said the tech felt he might get more out of a 42. 42mili is as big as i'd go.

My understanding is that the 42HSR gives much better throttle response, but the HC pistons (which I installed) add horse power.

I've wanted to get her dyno'd but have had trouble getting the intake sealed.

I'm going to the Rice-O-Rama in North Brookfield, Massachusetts, this weekend and am hoping that a little tightening and a lot of throttle will clean her out!

Mine may be the unpopular view but I don't think they're worth it. Hard starting, preignition, reliability to name a few. One thing I've never seen mentioned is gapless rings. You'd be surprised at how much horsepower can disappear through the ring gaps.

Your low compression engine can produce a lot of extra power even with the stock carburetor if it's just opened up. The right cams can pack the cylinders better, the right 2 into 1 exhaust can actually help pull the exhaust out of the cylinders, a little head work and I think the results would be surprising.

The stock carburetor jetted correctly should be good for 80 or so horsepower so unless your planning on a lot more than that you can save some money there.
