Ape Hangers 1 Year, 5 Months ago
Hey all, I am looking into getting some apes as soon as I can. I am thinking along the lines of 14 inchers. I was wondering what you guys would think of these http://www.road6customs.com/online-shop.html#ecwid:category=337157&mode=product&product=1136434 I have contacted the guys there and they can custom do the knurling for the risers on the R^ I am just wondering about the dimple spacing in comparison to the Harleys? Is it that much of a difference? I might be able to see about them custom doing that also. I was wondering on what length of lines I will need and where is a good place to get them for a good price? Thanks guys for your time and any input is greatly appreciated.

how tall are you? I'm 6' and went with 16"x1", feel i coulda gone to 19" but 16 is probably enough. I may go new risers one day ...
going 16" I re-routed the clutch and throttle (ditched the lower throttle cable)(temp situation) and extended the electrics wires. if i had more available funds ida gone for the 1¼" with wiring inside. all aside apes are great!

I'd recommend going with 1 1/4 inch bars. They have less flex and are easier to run wires thru. As far as the dimpling, the spacing is different. Couldn't get your link to work so I can't help you there.

They'll do the dimpling just let them know the center spacing for them. I got the same in 16 with the wires ran inside 1 1/4 would have been easier but I love them anyway. Fast turn around from the company too, received mine in 5 days that's with them building them and sending them down the road to be powder coated then shipping to me.

If you go to Barons Customs, they have 14"(Kong Jr) and 16"(Kongs) with the proper spacing for your risers and they come in 1.25" diameter... If I had it to do over again, that is the way I would go... I went with HD bars and had to take 1/8" of both risers for the HD bars to fit the risers... but, I did all this to run HD controls because I like them much better than the metric controls... 1.25" bars will allow internal wiring with better ease... any smaller and you will be fighting an uphill battle...

I went with 12" Burly brand metric apes. Everything was spot on. Unfortunately Burly are no longer catering for metric and I think i got the last of them from Pacific Coast Star.
