How much to change to ape hangers? 1 Year, 1 Month ago
I have been through most of the ape hanger threads and can not find what im looking for. I want to put 16" or 18" apes on my 05 road star. I am a total noob and need to know how much work im looking at and any other need to know information. Also, about how much will it cost for a total swap (cables, wires, lines, ect.)

the bars are the cheap part. new brake line, new clutch cable, throttle cable(s), and you need to lengthen the wires running up the bars

the guy i bought my bike from bought 16" apes with all the cables and stuff. he said he spent almost 900. on baronscustom.com 16" kong bars are 195 and the cables and stuff are 379 for 16" apes. he also bought pull back risers. he htought he would need them to have the option of putting on the windshield. but i didnt use them and i can still use my windshield. it took me proably somewhere around 8-10 hours. the hardest part was doing the wiring on the clutch side of the bike. theres 11 wires you have to solder and stuff through that hole. then bleeding the brake took me longer than it hsould have too. but worth it. i love the apes. handles way better for me. comfortable on the highway too. i find it easier to drive also. im pretty new to biking though. im 6'0" and with the 16"s my hands are where my shoulders are with the stock seat.

Those prices are about right... but save yourself some bucks and only get the pull cable, ya don't need the push cable... if ya wanna ride over to Murphy, NC from Salisbury, I will help ya install them

Where did you get your 12s? I really like the width of your bars.

Whenever you decide to do it lookup metric magic. I got my cables from him and he was about $100 cheaper than anywhere else I looked.
www.metric-magic.com/
You'll have to email him from that page but he's a good guy and gets name brand stuff for cheap.
