V&H Longshots and Baron BAK & "Jake Brake" Sound 1 Year ago
|
|
Do those of you with this set-up have a "jake brake" sound on all decel? I've had my bike since September of last year and I've been chasing my tail trying to get rid of the annoying rattle on decel. I've sealed my intake with Hylomar, replaced my exhaust gaskets, sealed the mufflers to the head pipes with Copper RTV, and played with the jetting. My jetting is currently as follows:
Altitude: 380 ft
Piolot: 35
Needle: Baron 4th from blunt end
Main: Mikuni 170
PMS: 3.5 turns out
So, the question is: is this sound a function of my set-up, or do I need to tune some more? Have any of you with this set-up been able to get rid of the "jake brake" sound?

the Jake brake sound I found is from the baffles. I took mine out when I first got the bike and then after reading on here, decided they were more important to have in. When I put them back in is when I noticed it and never could quite put my finger on what is sounded like until this thread LOL. By the way, unless you have a ported intake you might be a step or 2 lean on your main. Just an observation from other threads though. At your altitude I would be guessing (key word here) about a 175 main with an unported manifold.

You read my mind. I just noticed this fluff, jack brake sound after rejetting. Bike runs sweet except for decel sound. I still have CA AIS but thats coming off asap but not sure thats for fluff sound or backfire only( not present)
So......
Btw i have different pipes & stock /K&N

Made a home made set of these and installed them in the muffler as deep as possible. Cut the baffles down a hair to fit them in there. Sounds better (deeper), but no change in the "Jake Brake" sound.

Thanks for the tip. Forgot to mention that I have a ported manifold.

Forgot to mention that the bike runs great, minus the sound. AIS is removed.

Should I try removing my V&H baffles and leaving the home made monsters?
