Flag mounts for 6"x9" 12 Months ago
|
|
|
I recently joined PGR, and am interested in mounting 2 6"x9" flags to the back of my R* - maybe off the license plate. Does anyone have any suggestions on what mounts are good and where I can get them?

Your best off to fabricate your own. A 6X9 flag will put a lot of drag on when you get up over 20mph so you will have to make sure it's well supported.
I run 3 smaller flags full time on the back of my bike (not shown in signature picture) but for PGR missions I have a large platform that Ironman built for my hidden hitch and I've mounted 3 more flags to it, one is on an eight foot pole with a 6x9 flag the other two are 3x5 and I use 2 boat flag poles bondo'ed into the wood base on the plateform. The large flag is supported with a brace coming off of the luggage rack, and I filled the inside with 2" dowel rod.

Made my own one time from a 1/8" x 1" x 9" bar and 2 pieces 1/4" x 6" square tube stock welded perpendicular to the bar at the ends with holes drilled at the lower plate mounts. Used steel rods about 18" long for poles and welded washers about 6 1/2" from the top to keep it up. Then threaded the top and put a crown nut and washer on. Remember to always put the US flag on the right side as flag etiquette decrees it be at a higher point (when the bike is on the kickstand) when shown with any other flag.

I'm looking for how you mount the smaller flags (6 x 9 inch flags) - I am looking for a mount that I can use full time - not ready to ride with large flags yet. How are the small flags mounted?

Thanks for the info and the tip. I wouldn't have thought about the kickstand.

Don't have any decent pics of what I did but maybe this will give you some idea. Click on it to get a little better view.

I think Planet42 meant 6inches x 9inches not 6ft x9ft

Rev. - are you planning on something quickly removable, or more permanent. I'd be interested to see what you come up with.
