I have a curved star pad on it now. It gives you pretty good support and it it definantly makes a difference on long rides. I got it on ebay along with a used Looney seat. Instead of a hole, it has a long notch cut in the steel bar, about an inch long. I ended up making it about another inch deeper to give me more room for adjustment, but it works great. Only draw back is it requires the stock pillion mount. I preferred the solo look before but it's worth it. It goes about mid way up my back but what I noticed most was that it kept me from moving too far back in the saddle, there by easing pressure on my tailbone. The studs are pretty cheap so keep that in mind if you go studded. I changed them over with some from a craft place that looked more like the stock ones. If I ordered it again I would order the plain one and stud it myself as the cover unzips from the pad easily. You do need to grind the rear passenger mount a little to get it to bolt up flat. Been running it for almost two years and has held up well.
