NEED ADVISE ON HEATING LOWER EXHAUST BRACKET BOLTS 1 Year ago
I am trying with no luck to remove the lower stock exhaust bracket. I assume they used red loctite, my question is how to heat them with out damaging the paint on the swingarm or fender?

with what I guess was more the question? I don't have acetylene torches, I have the little blue butane, and a heat gun.

The heatgun has less chance of paint damage and should soften up the loctite ok,I would try that first before open flame with plastic and paint nearby good luck

It don't take much heat to loosen the Locktite if you use the propane torch. Probably about 10-15 seconds of heat right on the bolt/nut and it will come loose.

IIRC it only takes about 500º F to loosen the Locktite. Paper burns at 451º F so it shouldn't take much heat as all.

I got with a butane torch, hard to believe, but it was only blue loctite! must have been a heavy duty batch.

I'm not so sure that is not that urethane crap they use on drive shaft "U" joints nowadays. You'll never tap one of those things out with a hammer! Ya gotta heat them till the blue worm crawls out!
