I have a 2008 Roadstar 1700, can anyone shoot me some Ides for a good set of pipes that will give me a good deep sound without messing with my power?

Thanks

I installed the Yamaha Speedstar long drag pipes. They are very high quality, everything bolted right up, and they sound good. I paid $495 for these at my dealer in 2009. I also bought new gaskets with the pipes for about $7 each (seamed like cheap insurance at the time). I completely removed my AIS to eliminate the backfiring. Since your bike has EFI, you won't need to "re-tune" it. You can see them in my sig picture. Unlike many other aftermarket pipes, I can still access my transfer case fill plug and level plug as easily as with my stock pipes. This is worth considering unless you don't mind loosening or removeing your aftermarket pipes to get at these plugs.
Good luck!

Re:New Pipes 3 Years, 1 Month ago
Just bought a new '08 S last month; getting back to riding after too long an absence. I was looking for a deep sound without being too loud and decided on the Roadhouse Dooleys. I installed myself (not exactly easy, especially the crossover pipe fitting, but very doable with time and patience). They were EXACTLY what I was looking for in terms of look and sound.

I also installed a Baron's big air kit at the same time. I was definitely getting popping on de-cel after installing the pipes and BAK. Last night I installed an AIS removal kit and it absolutely removed the popping. The bike now runs perfect as far as I'm concerned; no loss of power or any other funkiness. I may have even gotten a bit of power gain, but this is just a "seat of the pants" observation. I have no PC or other power related mod's installed.

I ordered the Dooley's from Phat Performance Parts(lowest $$ I could find when looking) in April, I originally ordered slash-cuts, but they were on backorder with no hard-date. I called them and asked if they had the taper tips instead, they said they could ship them right away and would be happy to modify the order. I believe I got the pipes within three days of that call. I would have been happy with slash-cuts, but I find that I really like the way the tapers look on this bike.

Looks Great! I purchased my bike around the 15th of april, and I was really happy with eveything but the sound. It sounds good stock, but I was still looking for that rumble to let others (cars)know that I was around them. And before I found this site everyone I talked to said with fuel injection I'd need to retune my bike, and I really wanted to shy away from that if I could.

Thanks for the info! were they easy to install, or will I need to have the shop do them? I have been told that with a fuel injected bike everything has to be re-tuned to the new pipes. Was I mis-informed?

Pretty easy to install. Took about an hour or two.

You were misinformed. Nothing has to be done to the bike in regards to tuning. You just have to remove the AIS system due to the backfiring. Takes about 10 minutes.

...Dooleys all the way -- and in regards to the comment on waiting a long time, order them from Hellriser Customs and you'll get them right away.
