I have a Lindby (see sig pic) and am very pleased with it. It has not broken, and sits nice for me. I did blast some of the chrome off it with my power washer, but in it's defense, it had a lot of rock dings in that area. It is proper triple-chrome process plating, and is vey high quality. It did not peel like a cheap socket, which cheap single cycle dip jobs tend to, as the chrome plating is much too thick.

I'm going to get it powder coated black and keep it.

@1700cc - you mentioned you got yamaha because the lindy wouldn't work with your floorboard extensions ... i can't live without my extensions. they are 3" - just little strips of metal that move the holes forward 3". do the yamaha guards work with those? i really want guards, but wasn't sure which ones work with the forward extenders.

thanks

Hi Don, according to some other members here, the lindby bars won't work with the 3" extensions. I asked before I bought it. I do know Yamahas big bar will work with 3" extensions.

About 2 yrs ago a friend who had the Lindy bars on his bike wiped out taking a turn, hit a piece of roofing shingle and it was like grease. The bike flew out from under him and the Lindsy bears folded like paper. Maybe someone should look int the degree of safety each one provides, its not a beauty contest My 2cts

I don't think any manufacturer is silly enough to claim any protective capability for a bar. Way too many variables. Heck, My CJ5 roll bar flattened when I rolled it (backward!). It was trashed, but saved my bacon. The Lindby bar mounts underneath in a very similar manner to a lot of bars, with a couple of straps of steel about 5 inches long. I have yet to look at a highway bar and think, wow, now that looks like it would hold up in a crash. Sure, they can protect the bike in a tip-over, but take it from someone who has slid down US 67 at about 65 MPH: You ain't gonna be on it long enough for it to matter when you go down at speed.

No reasonable amount of flat steel and U-bolts is going to han on an 800 pound beast for long.

My Yamaha big bar broke right on the factory weld! Bike has never been laid over either. Dealer said he wouldn't/couldn't do anything about it since it was over 3 months old. Pissed me off. My buddy welded it up better than brand new. I mean he did such a nice job you couldn't even tell it had been broken. Then not to long ago it broke in the exact same spot. Maybe it's a high stress area or just a fluke. I was going to get the Lindby bar but that would mean I'd have to get rid of my floorboard extensions. I wasn't thrilled but I went ahead and ordered a new big bar. Hopefully this one will be better...

FYI, as long as its a certified Yamaha dealer yamaha parts and accessories purchased from them come with a 1 year waranty from purchase date. Last year I purchased some fork bolt caps they quit producing in 05 or 06 and the threads for the set screw were messed up so I called yamaha about them and they sent me a set of the new ones that replaced the ones I had. I liked the looks of the ones I had purchased better than the replacements so I retapped the bad ones and gave away the replacements they had given me. Yamaha didn't want my first set since they discontinued them.

OK so let me see if I got the sum here. my reading comprehension is not so good,
so the Cobra Fatty seems to be the toughest, but the draw back is finding peg mounts for the thicker 1-1/2 tubing, the Yamaha big bar kinda flimsy, and the Lindby is liked by those who have them, but the chrome might peel, or they might fold up on you in the event of a wreck.

OK SO WHERE DID YOU FIND THE PEG MOUNTS FOR THE COBRA FATTY BAR?

I thought Kuryakin (guaranteed miss-spelled) had some adapters for the fat bar, but you have to get the adapters and pegs seperate.
