Got one same as this from a clinic member
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2001-Yamaha-Road-Star-Silverado-Driver-Back-Rest-/261052488161?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3cc7f0d9e1&vxp=mtr
Uses the center screw hole from the passenger pillion. Some mods to the bracket are required but for me at least it is very comfy and not expensive.

Here you go... I've got something similar to this on my Looney, with stock rear seat and it works great.

I've been thinking about getting this one.
It mounts to the horizontal fender bolt and is adjustable.

I couldn't get the link to copy right, but if you do a search on ebay for "Fully Adjustable Driver's Backrest for Yamaha Road Star Roadstar" you'll find it.

I have the grasshopper backrest. For me, it works as a good lumbar support, and it's easily removable. You can also get it from them thru ebay and save a few bucks.

Bought one of these last Tue. Got it in the mail on Fri.(from California no less)! Rode 150 mi. with it Sat. & couldn't be happier! Kept the bad back from killing me after an hour or so riding. I still want to replace the stock seat, but maybe I can save that money a while longer now.
