Handle bars for a newbie 11 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Hello all,

I just picked up an 08 Roadie and I'm loving the bike! The only thing I'm not thrilled about it the handlebars. I'm sure this has been covered a lot but I wanted to ask. I have always loved the look of apes but i don't know if I'm too short to get the look I want from them. I'm 5'9'' and I'm thinking to get the full effect I will need to run 16" apes. Does anyone currently run Kong bars? If so how do you like them and will they be too high for me? I measured last night and 16" comes a little above my shoulders (a couple inches). Thanks in advance

from Asheville nc

I'm 5'10" and run 14s and they're perfect for me. I think I could have done 16s, but these are rigt at shoulder height. Mine are hd bagger bars, they have a slight bend towards the bottom to clear my fairing. If you would like some pics let me know of what.

Thanks for the welcomes!

Roger7886-- do you feel that the 14" give you the true look of apes? I see yours are behind a fairing so they look like the fit perfectly. 14s would probably be right at shoulder height for me also. I know it's only 2" but I don't want to put them on and say, man I should have gone with 16s. Do you have any full bike pics without the fairing?

Not a big fan of the larger apes. The 10' baby apes are perfect for my taste. It's a bolt on upgrade and you can use all the factory cables, brake line and control wiring. Change out took me 20 minutes.

from MI. if you havent had apes before keep in mind when your hands are above the shoulders the blood will run out of your arms and it wont be comfortable after a while. I would go with 14's like roger based on t you guys being the same height more or less. But its your call, your cash.

No, all my pics are with fairing, love it so much I've never taken it off at the very worst if you decide on 14s and don't like them you could do some 2" risers. To me, I have the exact look I wanted, I love em, so I wouldn't change em. Give me a minute and ill get some closer pics for ya. In the mean time, search for theGrinder he is the first that comes to mind specifically with 16s, although they're behind a fairing as well.
