Hmm thanks Rodger, these look better then I thought they would! Maybe I should stay on the safe side and go with the 14s. And you are right, I could always go with a 2" riser if I feel the need. These are HD 14s?

Does anyone run the Baron Jr Kong Bars, or any other brand 14" apes?

might want to check your state for laws concerning bar height. Some will allow to shoulder, some to armpits.

Thankfully in PA, there are no restrictions

FMVSS is 16 inches from the bottom of the seat to center line of the gripping surface. States don't always have their own restrictions, but a "peace officer" with a little knowledge and attitude can give you problems, Just FYI. If you ride into another state where your equipment might not meet that state's standards, you could be cited. Just things to be aware of.

You might go to a few shops and "floor ride a couple of bikes with apes, and see about were they sit and compare it to your bike. Last thing you want to do is spend all the money to get them up there, and then realize they are too far for comfort. I should build a fitment rack that will mount in the top clamp, that you can swivel and elevate until you like the feel, and then base your purchase on the rise, width, and pullback that is arrived at from there!

I'm keeping this for the record, so nobody steals my intellectual property!

Good points! I visited my local HD dealer and surprisingly they only had one bike with apes on it. But they were on a sportster and too tall for me. But then again the frame where the bars were is higher then my roadie.

I get in enough trouble with the "peace officers" I guess having bars that are too high would be another reason for them to look I usually don't keep bikes for too long, trade them out for something different. But I think I'm going to stick with this one for a while so road trips are defiantly in the works!

The only words exchanged between me and leos is "nice bike" and "thanks". Don't think I've ever heard anyone locally saying anything about the bars. I have heard some on here tho...

It is pretty uncommon in normal situations. Most of the time I hear it come up is during rallies in big rowdy rally towns' suburbs. Nobody seems to care that Texas' state standard mirrors the FMVSS. I know lots of guys with taller bars. It is not a line item on the state inspection checklist or anything.

from MN! My uncle ran 16's on his Springer, he's probably an inch shorter than you. He rode that thing around the country a few times. Once in a while The Man would bug him, they were a bit above his shoulders but nothing crazy like you see from the LOOK AT ME crowd
