Barons Spring Compression Tool? 8 Months, 4 Weeks ago
Has anyone had luck with using this? I want to replace my stock 725lb spring with the 930lb Baron spring. The dealer will do it but wants to charge me 1 hour of shop time, which is double the cost of the tool. Just want to know if this tool actually works well enough to remove the old spring and put the new one on. Thanks.

In the absense of a press you can use, I dont see why the tool shown would not work. Becareful when working with Springs, they can bite you pretty quick.

For what it's worth - Last season I replaced my spring with the Looney Progressive 850lb - 1200lb spring. For a $40.00 deposit Looney sent a compression tool very similar to the one in your posting. It worked well. After returning the tool to Looney they promptly returned my deposit.

See here - http://www.looneyseats.com/html/suspension.html

Good luck.

dveara how do you like the Looney spring. Does it act like they say it does? I've lowered my bike and am looking for a good performing spring.

It works mardyck. I know a few folks who have used it. One of them is my favorite wrench.

Hi, I went to every dealer in town nobody would touch it, finally I went to Canadian Tire and they took a shot at it, their spring compressor worked and at no charge, all the mechs gathered around, some drove 4 wheelers some bikes and they said if anyone else had a problem, send them, their way. Some places will do just to see if they can.

Good luck

Curt:

I've been real happy with the Looney spring. I ride two up quite a bit and we were frequently bottoming out. After installing the new spring, fairing, trunk, bags, etc. we can still bottom out, but only rarely. With the two of us and all the other added accessories, there's quite a bit of added weight.

I saw a noticeable improvement in the ride, though. I plan to add front fork progressive springs, as well, this Spring.

Once the weather warms up, I want to adjust the pre-load. I've left that set as it was. I'm pretty sure I can stiffen it up a bit and remedy the remaining issue some.

All in all, I think you'd be happy with it.

Good Luck.

Question of those who have replaced their spring.
1. What method did you use to remove your spring?
2. Did you take things loose on the shock then raise your bike on a jack?
I have replaced shocks on my bikes in the past but never worked on a soft tail type swingarm spring. My wife and I ride 2up a lot and have several trips planned this summer. And we do bottom out so replacing the spring sounds like what I need to do.

Jake,
I have a motorcycle jack and I put my bike up on it and removed the shock assembly took me about an hour. Be careful when you reinstall it though I put it in backwards and had to redo it. Real brain fart It wasn't hard. Then I took the shock assembly to a shop near my work and had them change it out for me. I would have done it at my work but the press broke
