Quick Detachable Backrests 8 Months, 2 Weeks ago
I've always been jealous of my father-in-law's detachable backrest for his VTX1300. And after much research, I never found many options available for the Road*. Well, flipping through the latest issue of Motorcycle Cruiser magazine (a good rag - BTW), I found that National Cycle is now making the Paladin quick detachable backrest for our Roadies

National Cycle New Product Release

You need 2 parts for the National Cycle solution:
Paladin Quick-Release Backrest with Pad
Paladin QuickSet 3 Mounting Hardware

If you're interested, the only other option that I found last year was the Plug N Play Removable Backrest from JB Fabrication. It doesn't look as stable, or as supportive as the National Cycle solution.

Ride safe

Yamaha has listed in their 2008 accessory catalog a quick release system for the R*. Both for windshield and for passenger backrest.

Part numbers for the backrest parts are:

STR-5VN41-10-00 - Quick Release Backrest Sidearms

STR-5VN41-30-02 - Quick Release Backrest Uprights (Tall)

STR-5VN41-30-01 - Quick Release Backrest Uprights (Short)

Prices for these parts are TBA. I'm betting they'll not be cheap.

Hey galban
I also checked out the Paladin Quick-Release system.
I wanted it to mount my tour trunk, and really liked the quick disconnect feature.
I contacted National Cycle, and they said the luggage rack only had a 5 lb limit, also that I would be very limited on the bags I could use with it.
So I, went a different route. Still, for a quick disconnect back rest, it is cool.

I was just talking (ok, bitching) about this to my buddy the other day. It's about time the Jap bikes ripped off HD's system ....... and hopefully (as usual) made it better.

I've always been jealous of my friends quick release system on his HD backrest and windshield. There's a time and place for both on my bike........I just don't want them there all the time. When my girl wants to go for a ride, I have to bolt the damn thing on (I know it's only a 5 minute job)........then it's there for weeks until I get the "time" to take it back off.

Same with a windshield.......forecast calls for a 'slight' chance of rain for the return from work - I'd throw the shield on and chance it. As it was, after getting caught a time or two, I bagged riding those days and gas-guzzled my way to work and back. Of course, then I'd walk outside at 3 and it's gorgeous! (and around here in late spring/early summer.....there is ALWAYS a chance for rain!) This news ROCKS!

Thanks, galban!

Man... I don't know... that national Cycle thing looks pretty homely. Looks like something out of a JC Whitney catalog, with all due respect to JC Whitney.

Yeah, but the cool thing is - it doesn't have to be on all-the-time. And, when it is on, the ol' lady is usually covering it... I don't dislike the short Road* backrest, but it is nice to have an option to pull it back off easily.

Does anyone know if these brackets will fit the Kuryakn Raptor backrest? I think the outside diameter is 8 3/4 for the Raptor bar.

Hi a Newbie here!

Does anyone know if the Yamaha brackets will fit the Kuryakn Raptor bar? I believe the outside mounting width is 8 3/4 for the Raptor bar.

I appreciate any info.

I agree with DownTownLB when it comes to these backrests and would love the quick release!!
