I looked at the SLT's too. A bit more than I want to pay. I just bought a hitch and trailer this year. I have to save some money for gas now. No sense looking/sounding good if it just sets in the garage, eh?

Just had the bike out...

Talked about the new sound technology with my neighbour Bob..

He just looked at me and said...dont mess with the Megacone...she sounds good not tinny and has a throaty roar
when I head up the street..

Ok the Cans for the Road Burners are made for all the bikes out there and they just get different head pipes and mounts

to fit different bikes...

Now.... how is that a tuned exhaust for the R*...

At least we know or we think the Megacone IS tuned for the Roadie...as well

the stock muffler... wow

at least lookin at the stock muffler they sure did a lot of engineering to do something

I would like to hear comments from others..are these after market exhausts tuned and for what bike???

Or do we just slap them on and hope they are designed for the R???

I think very few if any are tuned just for a roadie,, depending on the brand, all HKs use the same baffles for the same size head pipe.. same with the other companies..I truly believe that most of it is a marketing gimick..probably are a few that have been tested and engineered for a specific bike..Baron's nasties come to mind.. seems like I remember Doc or Gram mentioning something about a vortex baffle that really does improve things..but even then, that same baffle is probably used on all different bikes..

I can say one thing for sure...the speedstar stuff is and designed to put the R* on the race track...

Now before Yammi had the Megacone they were using the V&H two into one pro pipe ?? and yes they did put the R* on the track ...the Warrior was another story..

The sound that most of the R* owners are after.. is the low rumble of the dual exhaust from the Harley..which I had
for years...

The doolies on the R* come close...

I HAVE come to the conclusion to get that sound...the low rumbly Harley sound...is just not available to the R*

no matter what exhaust you slap on.....

the carb etc is and will remain a factor

BUT I have found that the R* does HAVE and I like a sound .... a roar that says power and I mean business...

No, I don't think that most pipes tuned for our bikes. They take a few lengths of pipe and bend them to what the builder thinks is aesthetic.

Some manufacturers may have considered optimizing the pipes but there is only so much they can do and still make the pipes 'workable' from the 'looks' perspective. I think most of the pipes use some performance theories but I wonder how many have actually been tested out on the dyno.

That is what I think...

Did even Yamaha test their drag pipes or the Megacone..on the dyno??..I can only assume that all the Speedstar stuff was designed to put the race in the R*..??

It would be interesting to know.

However why bother ..... look at the tight turn the rear pipe needs to make. There is a huge performance hit as soon as the gases leave the head .... and the front and rear cylinders are not balance .... look at the different exhaust paths.

Then there is the uneven length in pipes .. a staggered crossover can accommodate some of that but is it put in the optimum position.

I can say with all honesty....the Megacone 2 into 1 into 2 is one hell of an exhaust system...a little loud but...

Two header pipes go to one.. then inside the muffler a single input..is split and deflected by two discs..into two louvered baffles..and out the muffler...

What is very unique is the the discs that are in the exhaust path...

This apparently maintains the back pressure and allows flow at the same time...

It is a design unique in itself...and makes the R* dance..

Also the pinging sound dance which I had with my Harley and other exhausts is the heat shields cooling down...

It is the thin heat shields singin..

The Megacone shields are THICK and I get no ping and ping on shut down..

That's sounds similar to the baffles I made for mine. I bet Yam stole my idea.
