Talimena Scenic Byway - Must-Do's? 3 Weeks, 4 Days ago
My wife and I will be heading out to the Byway this weekend, it looks amazing and for a born-and-bread Colorado boy, I'm excited to get into some bigger "hills". Does anybody have any recommendations or must-do's while we're out there. We'll have most of Saturday afternoon/evening and Sunday morning to ride.

Also thinking of taking 270 out there from OKC, does anybody know if that's a good road or if it's best to fly down the interstate?

When you get done running the Talimena, US259 across the ridges is fun too. We will be running it on our way to Eureka Springs in 2 weeks time. Don't be tempted by the valley road to the south. It's not horrible, but it's not exactly the open road either. Lots of pulp wood trucks, and Sasquatch crossings.

Thanks for the replies! We got back yesterday afternoon, 550+ miles in 30 hours - the ride was amazing, we'll definitely have to make that part of our yearly rides. We were apparently around 2 weeks too early, as far as seeing all the leaves changing colors, but it was still a great ride with great scenery.

We ended up taking 177 down and 270/1 across. The roads were good and there wasn't too much traffic. I'll post pics soon.

I've always enjoyed the Talimena Trail. I am taking my Mini mate camper and camp out at the Talemina State Camp Grounds for a couple of days and just enjoy the fall and scenic byways. The Autumn Colors there are fantastic.
