We are having our American Legion Riders Poker Run today

A guy coming over with a group from the coast crossed the yellow line, clipped a toy hauler and went down, lost a leg

Then a crotch rocket went down, took him away, no details of the extent of his injuries

Then a group going up the hill collided with a group coming down the hill, no official word yet but those on the scene said a passenger lost her life on that one

Ya know poker runs... drive thirty minutes to a bar, pick a card, drink a beer... rinse and repeat five times

This will be a sober party tonight
This is why I don't do poker runs, to many first time riders who think they know it all. then mix in drinking ,Saddly I have been there .I was here this weekend they http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amcasouthernnationalmeet.com%2F&h=EAQE46qEw
They didn't sell beer at this event the booze fighter were there, and refered to them selfs as a RC not a MC that a Riders Club not a Motorcycle club Hell of a lot of different most of them wore tennis shoes .Hell they fit right in the goldwing Riders club

There have been some good posts on this here. Stevie, don't take these things as an attack. There might be more non-drinkers here on this forum, but that just could be because the drinkers are out partyin' it up rather than talking about it on the internet.

I'm a convert myself, after doing some really stupid things behind the wheel of a car in my younger years. Now I can just be thankful that nothing bad happened and try to make it right from here. I'm not against some casual beers, but theres a definite limit when I ride or drive. If I drink more than a couple, its at home. If we really go out and tear it up, we get a cab home. +

I had to seperate myself from a group of friends that I used to ride with because I couldn't justify some of the things that went on. Dropping bikes in the driveway, hearing things like "I can drink all the liquor I want when its cold out because I'll sober up when I get back on the bike." One guy went down and came close to dying. I shifted my respect from the guys who could drink a barrell of beer and still ride to those who could stand up to all that pressure to fit in and say "I'll just have a Coke." That took more courage than riding drunk with the guys I knew.

Hell don't worry about me feeling attacked, even the name tag on my vest says "Easy"
I'd have a beer or a coke with any one of ya
I'm not sure why this thread turned into a pissin match about drinking, but I don't drink much at all... Just when i'm out with the guys, although even my horse saddle does have a beer holder on it
And in case any of ya are still interested in the original intent of this thread, the soldier who lost his leg while driving and NOT drinking is going to survive
Carry on

I'm glad to hear you can roll with the punches I am equally happy that the downed rider will live.

No problem. I think some of the guys here forget that we all face the same risks whether we drink or not

BTW 7-up is better than coke
