transfer case 5 Months, 3 Weeks ago
I know I could find this somewhere but I will ask a dumb question. I want to change my transfer case gear oil and I wondered where is the drain plug? Is it on the outside of the case on the bottom left? Or is it on the inside of the case? Thanks in advance. Ken

After brake-in period I was going to change the transfer oil along with the motor oil but everyone at the stealers said not to that it doesn't need it for a long time . When is it best to change the transfer oil ? I know what the owners manual says but they insisted. It has the original oil in it now at 6,000.

I treat the trasfer case the same way I treat a new gear box in industry. Run them for a little while then change oil. Reason for this is that the metal particulate from break in is not filtered out in any way and resuspends in the oil while running. Just a good practice to do this I believe no matter what dealer says. After first change then follow the manual with no worry. IMHO

I've gotten in the habit of changing the transfer case oil every time I do the engine oil. I did my first oil change AND transfer case oil change at 600 miles. I'm now coming up on 3000 miles and will change them both again. This time I will be using the Mobile 1 V-twin 20-50 in the engine.

Some GL5 is backwards compatible to 4. It should say on the bottle somewhere if it is. Or you could look it up online. I use Royal purple. - Royal Purple
