Good day everyone, I have a oil burning problem I think it might be becouse of my hight compression piston but not sure, It use a lot of oil but she does not smoke and my plugs have no oil billed up, I do run a little rich, any ideas

First how much oild you you put in? With a filer and oil change only put in 4 quarts no more. It doesn't matter what the book or the dealer says don't put more than that and forget the stupid dipstick. You nwill never get the same reading everytime no matter what. If you change you oil every 3000 miles and use 4 quarts you shouldn't have to check it.

My bike uses / looses a pint every 500 miles ..
more if i ride hard..

started after trans recall ..
I had hi comp pistons installed at that time, also the yamaha part that eliminated the rev limiter... The only time I ever hit the limiter was when I was ahhhhaaaa ... well, u know.. Usually ride pretty conservatively, so, not like I'm always using more rpm that what the original rev limiter allowed.. Only mention this since it was added at the same time as the hi comp pistons...

of course, no one thought i knew how to check the oil...
finally had the dealer change the oil, and drove the bike back to the dealer to have him check after riding for 800 miles... yep... almost a quart low...

The dealer did a "leak down test" on the bike and found no problems ..
The rs forum guys walked me through the decompression valve stuff and I took my own compression test.. both cylinders right at 200# ... which is good... plugs all look good...pipes are a little balk, maybe a little too much fuel, but can get close to 50mpg if i try, so, not too bad ...

The bike was under warranty ... My dealer said Yamaha wouldn't do anything, not bad enough ... Went to another dealer, they told me to resolve it with my original dealer...

As near as i can tell, the oil is being blown out the crankcase vent tube.. I added a crankcase tube filter which keeps this oil off me .. If I ride hard, you can see the oil around this filter etc...

So... guess I'm living with it ...
At the time, I seemed to b the only guy with this problem...

Stumbled in the rs clinic looking for something else, notice your oil issue.. thought I'd let ya know what i ran into ...

A pint every 500 isn't much, you wouldn't see any smoke, how many miles on the new rings and pistons?

about 15,000 miles on new rings / pistons...

Exactly what yamaha said, pint isn't very much oil...
Manual says to change the oil every 4,000 miles...
Not saying I wait that long.. but....
loosing a pint every 500 doesn't leave much left to drain out ...

Most important, on hot days, riding hard on the interstate, two up, I like the bike full of oil, or at least touching the dipstick..
Gets old adding oil every couple three gas stops..

Plus, bike didn't loose / use a drop before the hi comp pistons were installed...

If it is blowing out the crank case vent then it sounds to me like the rings arn't seated and you are getting blow by. I don't care if it does have 200# compression whose to say it shouldn't have more than that with HCs in it. Max compression for stock pistons is 199 PSI. You got HCs.

well i agree...
sounds like rings are not seated..
per the dealer, the leak down test indicated that the rings are holding..
i don't exactly understand the leak down test... that's why i did the compression test.. adding a few squirts of oil to the cylinder and retesting, didn't improve or change the compression.

the dealer did add some ring free additive to the gas... didn't seem to help ... maybe i'll dig around and see if i can find some kind of additive that will help seal the rings ...

Based on the info above I doubt that your rings are not seated.

Compression test is done first to determine is there is a problem ..... low readings, imbalanced readings. If you added some oil between readings and the reading when up then I'd agree, your rings are bad but you said the readings did not improve.

Leak down test is a refined compression test. You should get less than 10% leakage, 5% if the engine is in good form.

I assume you checked the engine over and there is no other source of leakage? .... drain pug for example.

BTW ... stock compression is around 170 psi.
