Well that's weird 4 Months, 2 Weeks ago
My bike has been running funny. Tried the usual stuff. Got down to checking my float level and it was about a foot too high. No idea how that happened.

Obviously, it's your paint that's at fault here.

White bikes get going so fast, they heat up more due to air friction passing over the surface of the bike. Naturally, this includes the carb and all parts therein. When air heats up, it expands. There's air in the float. The float air heated up and, much the same as a hot air balloon, caused your float to rise as it heated. Bent the tangs. When you stopped, the air cooled, but the bent tangs prevented your float from settling back to its original pref-flight level. Ergo, float's too high.

Duh...

OK...maybe the squirrels moved it?

interesting concept, Roadkill. When he stopped, the gas expanded in the bowl and jammed the float up...
keep the pump...He's not used to hot weather...

Yeah. The squirrels. I forgot all about them. Sneaky little rodents. Boy am I gonna get them.

And of course as soon as I had my bike all tore apart a monsoon opened up. So I had to work on it in the rain and put it back together in the rain. I'm betting I'll have to take something back apart because there was water in it when I put it back together.

Why wouldn't he be? Both weeks of summer in Minnesota are pretty darn warm...

Best thing I ever did was lose the fuel pump. And I've been running all this time without changing out to the larger needle jet valve...no problems in a year. Just got one Thursday, though, and going to put it in tomorrow. I've found that at 85 MPH going up a 7% grade in 4th gear, I really CAN drain the carb bowl. And that's a LOUSY time to do it!

yep, I'm not a physisist, but with gravity feed, the stock valve is too small..when you figure the amount the idle and main use, then add in the accel pump, that small float valve just aint enough..

Good luck Musky, throw a tarp over her and cross your fingers...

Don't need a tarp. It stopped raining about the time I got it all back together.

I'll give it a good ringing out in the morning. I want to give it a chance to dry out as much as it can. CoachDan is going to be up in these parts tonight and I'm meeting up with him tomorrow afternoon.
