I'm want to know it there are any diabled vets that are 65 or over that are using the VA for their health care. If so are you also signed up for medicare part B and if so why. I have to decide if I want the part B soon and would like some input for anyone that has faced this. Thanks!

Hey Curt I am not over 65 but I was told when I retired to get the B plan for medicare when offered because it pays for doctors visits and out patient care and A plan is hospital related and I am covered for that under my regular insurance plan.Do a Google search for "Medicare plan A and B and you will get all kinds of info .I have 13 years before I have to decide ...as long as I am still around ....hope this helps some....Coug

Yes I know the A plan I am covered but with the B there is a cost. I get free medical from the VA because of my diability. It cover everything I even get my meds a a reduced cost. 3 months supply run me about $88 for three meds. Just like I have to get an MRI the 30th for my kidney cancer. Just had a yearly check up and am having a prostrate biopsy Aug 18th. All that stuff cost me nothing so I can't see any reason to take part B. I think the VA even cover my hospital stay if I have to have one. I am just wondering if anyone else out there has had to make the same decision.

Only 58 with a 40% rating but you pose an interesting question Curt. I'll have to check with my county rep and see if he can give me any insight. I'm sure coverage situations will change in the next 7-8 years but if I've got an idea how and when it'll be less of a shock to my system. You don't think of these things until it's too late. Thanks for the reality check.

Curt im a 100% through the VA and on Plan A and B.. Plan B was $85 a month.. I have not used Medicare at all yet I go to the VA for everything but I am going to start using medicare for regular check ups.. The VA doc's just dont give a crap they ask me what medication I want to be on for things..About 3 months ago I went to emergency and I was too far from the VA emergency inSacramento so they took me to a close county hospital. Everything was covered by the VA and if they didnt medicare would have covered everyhting they said (plan For the price I would get it ya never know when something is gonna happen and anything out of pocket is too much.Part B is just good to have it covers alot of things that could happen to anyone. Go on medicare site look at what Part B covers imo its worth it and the price goes up the longer you wait. I dont need either really because I have blood and combat issues that the VA takes care of but its a great thing to have just in case.

Well so far I have been really lucky they opened a VA clinic in a town really close and the VA doctors I have had for my regular care have been great. I actually get better care from them then I did when I have private doctors.hat I have very little money left after I lost my job and have no real retirement except the little I have saved and SS. The wife is on SS disability so she has part A & B. I've got a few more years to pay on my house everything else is paid for just got a little on credit cards to get rid of. I reach full retirement at 66 yo for SS and with that I will just get by. The way the economy is not there is no tell what will happen. Yes grayphart ya better be thinking about things now because it get here faster than you think. I screwed up some thinking I could do the stock market. I did great for a while and the took a big loss a couple of years ago. I can NOT tell you young guy enough to plan save save and plan or you will be sorry. It is only going to get harder for youas you age.

Curt,
I'm 50yo and retired Navy/Marine. Also 100% disabled and receive SS. All my care and med are through the VA. Was offered Med A and B but turned down B due to the fact that all care and meds come from VA and they will take the B payment out of your social security. If your happy with the VA and have or will have limited income something to think of!!!
