You are right Flashback. The way this mess started isn't making sense with what I have figured out so far. I have decided to throw
$66 bucks at it and ordered a new fuel pump.

On a side note my fuel pump has a Mitsubishi sticker and part # on it.

Tough to diagnose anything without being there. You could pull an injector to see if it's spraying fuel. Could be a pump or the pressure regulator. Not too many issues with the FI bikes have popped up yet. Interested to see how this one turns out

Sounds like you have made a connection between the tach not working and coil. What is making you go in the direction of fuel pump then?

Yah, I don't know anything specific about the fuel injected bikes other than the "E" in EFI stands for "electronic" and if you had an issue with the gauge cluster, I'd think it may be ECU related. Electrical gremlins could be preventing the injectors from spraying or messing with the fuel mixture, etc. Like Deerkiller said, pull an injector to confirm it's spraying and go from there. If you've got a mutli-meter, I'd break out the service manual and start checking components.

Best of luck.

to Ctkog. I checked spark on all 4 plugs when I got it home and they all looked good so I concluded a fuel problem. I can't explain the tach issue, but I was still in shock when I made the tach observation. Also, it fired for a second or 2 when I gave it some starting fluid. I will study the manual and see if I can make any diagnostic tests. If that fails I will take it to a professional for the first time in its life.

I got my fuel pump today 7/13. I don't know how to take the old apart to insert the new motor. I called Quantum fuel systems and they told me it is too complicated to explain over the phone and suggested you-tube. I haven't found what I'm looking for, so I will keep trying, Unless somebody reading this knows the magic sequence.

On the FI bikes, fuel pump is in the gas tank, it was on my '13 R*

That is all I know about the fuel system on mine tho =) If I was in your place, my bike would have already been taken to my R* guy where I bought it. I can change oil and air filters and spark plugs lol but that is about as far as I go.
