oil leak 7 Years, 11 Months ago
Hi Gram, I have an 2000R* with a K&N open side air filter, when it is running and at more than just an idle there is oil leaking every now and then from out of what looks like a plastic type screw directly beneath the air cleaner,at least till I take a closer look that is where it appears to be coming from.It seems to be getting on the front cylinder pipe and the lines behind them. The person I bought from told me about it and said if he ran the oil level in the middle of the stick he didn't have any problem with that ,I just prefer to run it where the manual say's could this be a crankcase breather that need's rerouting.Thank you for any help guy's. SULLY!!

Sounds like your crankcase vent is plumbed to your air cleaner. This doesn't cause this problem with the factory air cleaner, but will with the majority of aftermarket air cleaners.

Check to see if the crankvent hose coming from the front of the rear head (right side of bike) is plumbed to the air cleaner. It will be a rubber hose.

If it is , you should think about redoing that and plumbing it to the ground. I have done it to both of my bikes.

A nice side benefit is that your carb stays a lot cleaner inside.

Make sure you don't over fill the oil when you do a change. 4 qts, no more.... Overfilling will cause it to puke oil out the breather..
