#102150 sos567656765 (User) Fresh Boarder Posts: 36 How much noise is too much? 4 Months, 1 Week ago   So everything that i have read and experienced myself with our scoots are that indeed the engines like to make a few noises and i know that its just our bike talking to us and letting us know what it does and does not like. I just did the first oil change on my bike and put in amsoil 20-50. That really shut it up but what im wondering is at what point is it too much noise that we should look into it? You would probably have to have several bike there to ride and compare. I would say you should listen to your bike and learn what noises it does make. Gold Boarder Posts: 895 Re:How much noise is too much? 4 Months, 1 Week ago   I've actually found the top of the Rodie engine to be surprisingly quiet... most of the "noise" we hear comes from the body of the motor... the cam, lifters and pushrods... sometime when you have a few miniutes, take a solid bar of metal, (I use a 12" socket extension...), clean it up first and put the socket end right in your ear and place the ratchet end on different parts of the motor when it running... If you do it right, you'll actually hear the meshing of gears, the turning of cams and the mating of parts deep wothing the motor... When everything is running fine, whatever noise it makes should not change - when it does that is not a good sign. Any oil that meets mfg specs will do. Synthetic is better than dino. Research the forum here and you will find all kinds of opinions here. I recently did a oil change and used 30w " I know I should be 20/50 and I am gonna change this weekend" but in the meantime I can really hear my lifters/valves more than usual and the bike started a wierd vibration after the oil change. I know it sounds akward for all that to happen but wouldnt the 30w quiet it down a bit more being a thicker oil? Or is there a possibility that the thicker oil is not reaching where it should? How would 30 be "thicker" than 50 weight? And who knows if this oil has anywhere near the properties needed in our bikes.
