SInce we are in the subject of noises,,,I am a little concerned about the top of my 1600 engine. I recently did a oil change and used 30w " I know I should be 20/50 and I am gonna change this weekend" but in the meantime I can really hear my lifters/valves more than usual and the bike started a wierd vibration after the oil change. I know it sounds akward for all that to happen but wouldnt the 30w quiet it down a bit more being a thicker oil? Or is there a possibility that the thicker oil is not reaching where it should? My bike has always ran super other than running a bit rich lately which made me wonder about cylinder wall wear? any input here..I'm listening..
.

As you already have noticed ... you're running the incorrect oil. A 30 weight oil is too thick when you start up the bike, consequently you won't get good lubrication ("reaching where it should". Vice versa when you're running hot ... it's too thin and quickly runs off surfaces.

Either way you're going to get more noticeable noise ... and wear.

is amsoil oil better than yamaha oil?

Any oil is better than Yamaha dino oil, which has a tendency to have air entrained in it when hot. This is probably why the bike sounds noisier when running the OEM oil.

I parked it for today and I will change oil tonight. I feel pretty stupid because I usually stick to the guidelines on maintnance. Is 20/50 synthetic blend OK or straight synthetic?

Doesn't matter ... you can use dino if you wish. Syn 'holds up' better.

From my experience I found that the brand and weight the was determining factor. The motor seems to 'like' some oils better than others.
