I figured it out. The bike is running rich and the smell is akin to the same smell as the old gas burning muscle cars of the past. Getting roughly 200 km per fill up, The bike runs strong so I am leaving the HSR
alone. I rarely group or buddy ride so the smell issue is a moot point. If I group ride, I will run tail gunner position. With what has been done to the engine as far as high performance mods, let sleeping dogs lie.
When I ride behind my pal with his 2006 Road Star it is like riding behind an old muscle car as far as monoxide fumes. Others commented about his bike smelling also. I noticed it too but it's part of riding and I care less about that type of stuff.
Usually I change something when someone complains but not altering the set up when it works right for the bike. I will get the bike serviced and get the exhaust tested for excessive emissions next spring and let a professional tune the bike, as my carb
skills are rudimentary, and I do not have the equipment to do the proper tests.
Rode 198 miles round trip yesterday to get a box of Fried chicken. Wind chill was 8 f so it is getting cold. Fried chickens and motorcycles are a winning combination.
