Re:hard krom 3 4 Months, 1 Week ago
the REX TEC sound really good on mine, however i have the small leak in the rear pipe at the header sill working on that, but from what my ear can tell, the res tech's are a bit more neighborhood friendly than the big straights, have not had alot of ride time just yet with them, but that's commin. who knows if there is an aftermarket gasket for the header or do you have to use the oem one's the dealer sells? questions is that when i took out the old ones, the new ones seem to be a bit smaller to me. could this be why i cant seem to get the rear pipe to snug up enoug to make a good seal? any sugggestions?

It's cheaper and not quite the same size but works well.

If need be, you can double up on the gaskets.

not to sound real dumb here, but here it goes anyway. by doubling up the gastkets wont' that leave chance for same problem if they are not perfectly aligned with one each other??

what about double up the oem gaskets? since the old ones came out and new ones went in. What if i put the old ones in first and then use the new ones to crush up agaisnt the old ones. Will, could, maybee, that do the trick??

Some of the aftermarket pipes do not line up precisely (as you have noticed). If you try to tighten at the frame ..... a gap is created at the heads and vice verso. In these situations the extra gasket helps fill this gap.

You can double up the OEMs .... Folks use the Felpro as they are cheaper.

The OEM ones can be used a few times, as long has the original ones were not fully crushed due to over tightening ... so .... yes, you can do as you propose.

I have changed my exhaust out several times...

I was just using the OEM s over but noticed th oem gaskets were not coming out of the head with the head pipe so since I decided that the surface that changes would be on the pipe side...

I had a pair of new crush 2" gaskets..hanging on the wall..
I didnt use them cause they did not look as robust as the OEMs

When I put on the new Road Burners I used the crush gaskets over top of the oem doubling up as Doc mentioned...and absolutely no leak...even on real hard decel...

Now if I change out the exhaust again that is what i will do...the new crush gaskets over the OEMs...

those hex barrel exhausts nuts dont go down as far and leave more hex wrench depth...

I thought the stud nuts were goin down too far with the OEM gasket

and using just the crush gaskets alone would make things..

worse...now they look better...

some after market pipes have weld lines on the face of the pipe side and the crush gaskets will seal well over the line if it is not too high...other wise ya gotta grind the weld down

My Cobras had the weld line ..the HKS and the road burners dont and the stock exhaust doesnt...

note you can't use the crush gaskets over again
