Need more or faster speed from my 01 Roadstar ? 4 Months, 3 Weeks ago
I went riding tonight with some friends one on a Valk which is fast the other rides a Royal star I believe it is I know it's the V4 Yammy 13 or 1400 I believe. They both just walk off from me on this bike compared to my old Kaw 1600 and Suz 1500 that were stock. what can I do if anything that wont break the bank to give me more take off speed and top end speed it hits 104 mph wound out long and tight. I also hit the rev limiter several times trying to catch up through the gears on a take off from a stop sign and they weren't wound out like I was. I have the Barons Big air intake kit and Vance and Hines 2 into 1 Pro pipe and assume the carb have been rejeted I bought the bike used it's an 01 Roadstar 1600.

Thanks for any help I can get.

stumpman those bike are a take off from the sports bikes. Your R* is slinging a lot bigger slug in it's two cylinders then they are. You can go with the Dyna 3000 and bump your rev limit but your never going to have the pick up that those bikes do. The V-Twin isn't a match for those 4 bangers.

It's fun to race once in a while. I raced a Warrior a while ago knowing full well I was going to lose big. You bought a cruiser. It's not a racer or sport bike. I think you'll have to put lots of money inside the motor to get the kind of performance you want. Personally i would go to a different bike before I did that. I like the Roadie for what it is.

I don't like losing either. Curt is right , Dyna 3000 will really wake things up , as the 1600 has a conservative red line (around 4,200 RPMS), you can move up to 5,000 safely and enjoy more motor. You can get a Dyna 3000 for about 200.00 if you shop around. And , you can re-gear the front sprocket from a 33 to a 31 and that will also really give your bike some get up and go. That too , is a little shy of 200.00 bucks. Those 2 things will put your bike in the "hunt". But , like Musky mentioned , it is a big cruiser , that wasn't built with stop sign to stop sign performance as its first objective. But if you pony up for those 2 items , I feel you will really like the change it makes to your bike. BB

I know what I bought.... I also have a sport bike, I have had several 1500 and 1600 cruisers over the years as well as a HD Electra glide classic all seem to have had more zip and take off speed then this bike has for some reason. The bikes I was trying to keep up with not racing as they were in front at the signs and lights were both cruisers as well. I listed this bike in the classifieds tonight as well as Craigs list I think I might go back to a Suz or Kaw 1500 since there seems to not be an inexpensive fix for this one. I sure hate to since this bike is so sweet looking and sounds nice as well. Thanks for the replies and if anyone else has a cure Please let me know of it.
Thanks!

If you can do maintenance (oil changes , plugs , etc..) , you can do both of these at home. Dyna is a plug and play , takes no more than an hour to do , front sprocket might take a couple hours. And you could get lucky and find someone selling these items used and get a better deal on them , but either way , even new , we're talking less than 500.00 for the combo. I had an LC1500 Intruder new in 2000 , with these mods , it'll be quicker than the old Intruder. BB

Found the Dyna for 209.00 and a sprocket on Ebay thanks for the info!
How much of a change should I expect from these two mods?

check your jetting.

with a BAK and pro pipe jetted right, you should be getting more than 104.
if it was stealer fitted, there is a good possibility that itīs set too rich (which 80% of dealers tend to do, erring on the side of caution), and that will take the edge off your top end. donīt forget that a large screen and bags will kill your aerodynamics.

as for sticking with a valk, donīt bother trying without some serious tuning work. they run out at 100bhp with around the same torque as a roadie, so youīre onto a loser before you start!
