Cranks but wont start 3 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Hi I have a 2004 Roadstar with 3000 miles on it was riding home from parents house and the motorcyle acted like it ran out of gas it just sputtered and died. Just had filled the tank up. After getting it home began to trouble shot found no fire to the plugs. Dealer no help . Any help would be greatly app.

jdruth. Welcome to the clinic!

Now, electrical can be a female bear protecting her cubs, so, start with the basics.

Check your battery, fuses, power to the coils and the coils themselves. Somewhere in that line is your issue. You can work your way backwards from the coils instead, but, somewhere along the line you'll find it.

If you don't have a VOM (Voltage/Ohm Meter) tester, you can probably pick one up for under $20. One of the best investments you'll ever make.

If you took her into the dealer and they were no help with this, you need to find a new place to service her. Try an independant instead.

If you have the repair manuals, there is info for the Ohm resistance to test the different parts, like the coils. If you don't have them, I'm sure one of the guys here will link you up with info.

Have fun and stick with it. You can do it.

Ratl.

What Slyguy said. These R*'s are notorious for being jetted too rich and fouling out the plugs. Pull your plugs and if they're fouled, buy two sets, not one. You'll need them until you can adjust your carb. Lot's of great info here at the clinic, just do a search for almost anything you need, or, start a thread if you can't find an answer.

Re:Cranks but wont start 3 Months, 3 Weeks ago
where can I pick a service manual up or is there one I can download. I have checked the plugs and they are not firing(with an ohm meter). The coils have power on one terminal but not the other. When i crank it there is still nothing on the other terminal is this normal but coils act the same the only time power is on the other terminal is when i first turn the key on. I have checked all the fuse. How can I check the kill switch above the starte button? Thanks for helping
