New member with big question which oil to use? 2 Weeks, 4 Days ago

2006 roadstar midnight silverado due for first oil change, dealer did 600 mile change, what oil would a fellow roadie recommend. I've search, read, and heard every thing from staying with 10w40 or 20w50, to synthic and just plain regular oil. I live to ride in Kaneville Illinois , just west of chicago, and next oil change is coming up. RIDE SAFE

I use Mobile 1 V-twin 20-50. Really quited the motor down, and seems to hold up really well to the temperature differences here in New Mexico! I got it at Auto Zone!

I also use Mobil 1 Synthetic V-Twin. I may switch to amsoil though. I'm due for an oil change.

I use Lucas 20w50 Synthetic Motorcycle Oil. I buy 5 quarts and put 4.4 in the motor and .6 in the transfer case. Sure quieted the Road Star down. It is available O'reilly and other Autoparts stores.

Synthetic is definitely the way to go. I put Amsoil in my Honda at it's first oil change and it made a huge difference. I assume the way others talk, that the Mobil 1 is some good stuff too.

Four quarts max is the recommended amount per Mama Yamma.

I used to run Rotella Synthetic (cheap by the gallon at walmart (under $20)); but I got scared as my engine has more miles, plus I didn't think it was good for the tranny and its auto oil, not motorcycle oil (though I never had problems with it).
I think many people choose Mobil 1 V-Twin because its readily available at most auto parts stores; even though it runs about $9.50 a quart. People have their preferences, some will swear by Amsoil, Royal Purple, etc. and some of those brands are harder to get.
