Tachometer Wiring 3 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Question for anyone with a tach or who is just smarter than I am (pretty much anyone):

How are tachs wired for your R*? What does it hook up to?

I'm thinking about buying a tach and installing a receptacle on the bike. I'd then add a plug to the tack and an alligator clip (if there is a second wire. When I wanted to test or set my timing, I could just plug the tach into the receptacle I installed and and clip the other wire to ground or wherever a second lead would go. Just thinking folks.

Soba they hook them to the coil that fires the rear cylinder because the front jug reacts to the rev limiter however if you are just testing at idle I suppose it doesnt matter....Coug

Yeah, I don't want to install a tach. I just want to be able to plug one in and set idle at service.

Haven't even started looking. but since I'm not worried about appearance, it really opens up the possibility for an inexpensive (but reasonable accurate) tachometer.

I ran one straight out of the "Fatbook" (the Harley catalog at my local Honda dealership). It was inexpensive , around 60-65 bucks , and used a Kuryakyn "P" clamp to connect it to the bars. Had about 80 bucks in everything , and had no issue with accuracy or it fogging in rainy rides. Sold it to a buddy , who now runs it on his Roadie. BB
