Platinum Boarder Posts: 1518 Tachometer - car vs motorcycle 3 Months, 2 Weeks ago   This might be too technical a question but would love a simple answer: Can anyone explain to me the difference between a motorcycle and a car tachometer, other than mounting options? Car Tachs are set up for 4,6,and 8 cylinder motors....Coug Coug is correct but that is at the calibration end...the universal car tachs you buy are switchable and can be switched to be used with a 4 or 6 or 8 cyl but at the wiring end I believe the pos. neg.. ground and light wires are the same as the motorcycle tach A Tach for a single fire dual coil ignition as on our R* is differently calibrated than a tach for the single coil dual fire ignition on a Harley..but again one pos and neg coil wire and a black ground and light wire..4 wires the same Some one correct me if im wrong....   Logged     Last Edit: 2008/08/06 14:20 By Pop Rivet.   2009 Ultra Classic HD...2005 Silverado Road Star Listen to the Road Star   The administrator has disabled public write access.
