ok i have checked the fuel level and it was out of spec i am having problems getting it to come in. I was high before now i am comming up low. But it was only a bit out of spec on the low side and i still couldnt get it to start. I am gonna fine tune the fuel level any other sugesstions to what it could be?

So you cleaned the carb, jetted as we have reommended, checked the float bowl and it still won't run without starting fluid?

Hook up a length of fuel line directly to the carb. On the end put a small container that will hold some gas (I used the pastic turkey baster without the bulb ... it fits perfect inside the fuel line and you can see how much gas is left}. Fill the container and try to start the bike. The fuel level should go down and eventually the bike should start.

If not, take the carb apart, clean it and used compressed air to clean out the passageways.

Carb is getting fuel. Ok i have cleaned the carb the fuel level is in spec and i have played with the pms with the clinic recomended jets. No Dice. I put the carb back to where the previous owner had it with a 182 jet and his needle on the 3rd clip. With playing with the PMS i can get the bike to start some times usually have to open the throttle about 4 times to squirt some fuel in the carb or put my hand over the carb to manually choke her. Then once i get her started she woulnt idle with out the choke on. I think one of the cylinders isnt firing right i can feel a diffrence in the temp in the exhaust gas and pipe temp. I have changed plugs ang the manifold that connects the carb to the cylinders. the old one had some cracks and dry rot. I am thinking it might be a vacume problem because when i change the manifold the cylinders switched meaning prior to change the rear cylinder was hotter and after the front cylinder is hotter. I think the guy before me changed the vacume set up. I have the manual but cant make head or tales cause i have diffrent intake. Any take on the important vacume lines and where they should run. My intake vacume line is pluged dont tkno if that messes with things.

Sounds much more than a jetting problem.

Do you have the stock ignitor .. if so put that back in for the time being.

BTW .... your Dyna should be on the set 'B' side.

Do a compression check. The difference between cylinders should be around 5% but less that 10%. If you still have a fucntional decompression solonoid, disconnected it for the test.

Test the coils (see service manual).

While you're at it, check for intake manifold leaks.

yea that is where i am at i am gonna trouble shoot timing vacuum and ignition. Only thing is it ran and idled before i took the carb off to jet it but we will see. Just frustrated with it right now wondering if i would not have messed with the carb if i woudl have been fine.

Jersey, your timing is not vaccum controlled it is controlled with a TPS. if you unbolted the TPS from the carb, you could very well have messed up the advance curve..

Here we go ..... ran OK before/runs badly after taking the carb off.

Did you disconnect or remove the TPS?
